INDIAN ROCKS BEACH, FL — A 70-year-old man riding a modified electric bicycle was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries Wednesday after being struck by a van in Indian Rocks Beach.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s office, around 9 a.m. Thomas Hines was riding the electric bicycle south on 1st Street, approaching the stop sign at 18th Avenue.

The sheriff’s office said 68-year-old Debra Sander was driving a 2020 Honda Odyssey van east on 18th Avenue when Hines failed to stop at the stop sign and collided with the van.
