Shocking moment callous thief on scooter snatches 75-year-old’s mini pit bull in Queens Leave a comment

A cold-hearted thief was caught on camera stealing an elderly man’s mini Pitbull in New York City on the street right in front of his house in Queens.

Carlos Gil, 75, was walking his dogs close to the intersection of 95th Avenue and 88th Street in Ozone Park at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday when the suspect, who remains unidentified, approached him and engaged in conversation while petting his two dogs, video shared by the Park Residents Block Association shows.

The suspect then suddenly takes Off White, a gray and white mini pit bull, into his arms and revs his electric scooter in an attempt to quickly flee with the pet, footage shows.

In response, Gil puts himself in front of the suspect’s vehicle to try to block his path.

But the suspect pushes him away and takes off with the one-year-old puppy, driving on the sidewalk.

A second dog with black and white spots can be seen climbing up the steps of his elderly man’s home as soon as the suspect grabs Off White in his arms.

After the incident, it was revealed that the mini pit bull belonged to one of Gil’s family members, a 52-year-old woman.

Another relative of Gil’s later shared a picture on social media of his pet wearing a track suit along with the caption: ‘Somebody just stole my dog from my grandfather in front of my house.’

‘When he took off on his bike, I tried to push him,’ Gil, who mainly speaks Spanish, told WABC. ‘He rushed away, but I thought he was going to hit a pole. Because I wanted to take him out.’

The suspect is still on the run.

The Ozone Park Residents Block Association later described the daylight robbery as ‘appalling’ in a statement shared on Facebook.

‘We condemn the actions of this perpetrator and coward that preyed on a senior and stole his dog,’ the statement further read. ‘These acts of cowardness can not go unpunished, and this perp MUST be brought to justice.

Police told the New York Post that the stolen dog is worth $800.

‘We really would just like to get the dog back,’ relative Alonso Gil told WABC. ‘It’s very much a part of the family, and it’s just very sad to know that he’s gone.’

Another dog in the area, called Remi White, was sad to hear what had happened to his ‘best friend.’

‘They usually see each other every day, every time he walks in, we see each other,’ Felix Nunez, who is Remi’s owner and also a friend of the stolen dog’s owner, said. ‘The dog is very friendly also.’

Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
