STAMFORD Bikes took over New Haven for two years. Electric scooters hit the pavement in Bridgeport starting in the summer of 2020. A fleet of 250 scooters appeared in downtown Hartford this Earth Day.

Short-term bicycle and scooter rental companies have taken the Nutmeg State by storm. Yet, in Connecticut’s second-largest city, the roads are free from rent-able bicycles, scooters and mopeds.

Back to 2005

Though scooters are only part of the short-term rental picture, their absence from Stamford’s roads dates back to a 2005 Board of Representatives ordinance that tried to curb another problem — the pocket bike.
