Last week, we reported that Prime Minister Imran Khan had inaugurated Pakistan’s first locally-assembled Electric Bike (E-Bike). Now, the price of this machine has revealed. As per media reports, the launching rate of this bike, JE-70, is Rs82,500. Furthermore, it can travel up to 80 kilometers in Eco Mode, while it travels up to 60 kilometers in Turbo Mode. The bike has 1000W Power with top speed of 60 km/hour on plain road.
While giving an interview to a local English newspaper Dawn, Usman Sheikh, CEO of Jolta Electric, claimed that the bikes have received immense buyers’ response. He, however, didn’t share the exact number of bookings. The CEO further said that students, teachers, courier companies, and people from rural areas have shown interest in the bike.
As per the company, the bike will need overnight charging at the home of 1.5 units. The company also claimed that the charging would cost only Rs1,000 per month, which will be very cost-effective for the owner.
Launch of Electric Bike:
On July 8th, Prime Minister Imran Khan launched Pakistan’s first-ever Electric Bike in Islamabad. The launch of this environmentally friendly vehicle is part of the government’s 5-year Pakistan Electric Vehicles Policy 2020-2025. The policy was approved last year with a mission increasing electric passenger vehicles to 30% by 2030.
Addressing the ceremony, Imran Khan praised the step, calling it very positive. “The encouragement to EVs is part of government’s Clean and Green Movement,” he said.
The current government has taken a number of steps for the promotion of Electric Vehicles in Pakistan. Under the new auto policy, the government announced:
- Import duty on CBU Electric Vehicles (EVs) will be reduced to 10% from 25% for one year
- 1% Customs Duty on import of EV parts
The launch of such vehicles will indeed reduce the grave issue of pollution in Pakistan. What is your take on the launch of this E-Bike? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
