Yamaha is keen to to see how India’s EV policy evolves before launching its first electric 2-wheeler.
The electric scooter segment has grown substantially ever since the government introduced subsidies and other sops. Following the success of Ather Energy, large players like Bajaj Auto and TVS Motors have entered the fray. Now, Yamaha too is drawing plans to enter the EV space.
According to a media report, Yamaha is working on an all-new electric 2-wheeler platform for India and the global markets. But, before it could commit to introducing its first e-scooter in India, the company wants to see how India’s EV policy evolves.
Yamaha had showcased the E01 e-scooter concept at the 2019 Toyota Motor Show. In the same year, the company launched the EC-05 electric scooter in Taiwan. It comes with removable batteries that offer a maximum range of around 100 km.
Yamaha is also gearing up to launch its first hybrid scooters in the Indian market. The Fascino 125 FI Hybrid and the Ray ZR Hybrid will be launched later this year.
