A man in his 20s has been taken to hospital after the electric bike he was riding was involved in a crash with a police car.
Aigburth Road was closed for around two hours to traffic heading into Liverpool after the crash around 11.30am on Wednesday.
Emergency services including police and ambulance were called to the scene close to Barkhill Road.
A bike could be seen in the road and witnesses said a man was treated at the scene.
Today Merseyside Police confirmed the rider was seriously hurt after the collision involving a police car and an electric bike at the junction of Aigburth Road and Mersey Road.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said: “At around 11.30am today (Wednesday 23 June) we were called following reports of a collision involving a police car and an electric bike at the junction of Aigburth Road and Mersey Road.
“Emergency services attended and the male rider of the bike was taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.”
The road was closed westbound, affecting traffic heading into Liverpool but has since cleared.
Ambulance officials said a man in his 20s has been taken to hospital.
North West Ambulance said they were called in a 999 call at 11.45am.
A spokesperson said: “We have taken a man in his 20s to hospital with a leg injury.”
