Yamaha considering launching electric scooter in India: Reports
That electric mobility has started to take off in India is, quite frankly, not news. Sure, we still have a long, long way to go when it comes to truly accepting electric vehicles as a form of transport for the masses, but the fact remains that there have been efforts from across the entire ecosystem, including automakers. Some already offers EVs in India, some are preparing to launch, and some are still working on a plan. That would include India Yamaha too because word has it that the Japanese automaker is considering bringing in an e scooter in India now that the segment is slowly, but steadily, starting to pick up pace in the country.
According to a new carandbike report, Yamaha’s Indian subsidiary is indeed considering introducing a new, especially-developed-for-India EV here. However, the company first wants to see how India’s EV policy as well as the EV adoption roadmap evolves. The report adds that the company would be quite inclined to pursue EVs in India, provided the government’s policies are more conducive to such adoption and that such plans are further supported via an integral EV infrastructure in the country.
The company recently revealed Yamaha Fascino 125 FI Hybrid and Yamaha RayZR Hybrid. Both scooters feature hybrid technology, i.e. the petrol engines will be fortified with electric power, and are expected to be launched here soon. Yamaha explained hybrid scooters are the first concrete measure for the company’s foray into India’s EV market. It added that work on a brand new electric two-wheeler platform for India is already underway. This platform will also be used for other markets across the globe.
