Mumbai: Simple Energy, a Bengaluru-based electric vehicle startup, will launch its first flagship electric scooter on Aug. 15 this year, even as it scouts for funding.

The e-scooter, code-named Mark2, was scheduled for launch in mid-2021 but has been delayed due to the ongoing second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic in India. It will debut in Bengaluru in the first phase and later launch in Chennai and Hyderabad, Simple Energy said in a statement on Saturday. The company will expand to more cities later on.

Pre-bookings will start on the launch day itself, followed by the deliveries soon.

“We are thrilled to be announcing the launch date. August 15 is a significant milestone for the nation, Simple Energy aims at creating history with a world-class product made by an Indian company,” Suhas Rajkumar, founder and chief executive officer of Simple Energy, said. He expects the pandemic situation to ease by then.

The flagship e-scooter will have a 4.8 kWh lithium-ion battery with a claimed range of 240 km in eco mode and top speed of 100 kmph. It will be priced at Rs 1.10 lakh-Rs 1.20 lakh, the company said.

Funding plans

Simple Energy is looking to raise $15 million (more than Rs 100 crore) in a pre-Series A funding round in the third quarter of 2021. The company has released images of the vehicle under test. It is also planning to set up charging stations ahead of the launch of its flagship product.
