Hero MotoCorp to launch electric two-wheeler in 2022
It has been for everyone to see that the concept of electric mobility has been picking up quite the bit of traction in India off late. This is, of course, the result of a variety of efforts: From the country’s government that is trying to boost the adoption of electric vehicles as well as automakers, who are enabling this transition with the introduction of electric vehicles. We don’t not only have electric cars, but plenty of electric two wheelers as well, including from behemoths such as Bajaj Auto, TVS, etc. However, the one name missing from this mix now appears to be ready to throw its hat in the ring: Hero MotoCorp. Yep, the company has finally confirmed in a recent interview with Moneycontrol that it is indeed nearly ready to launch its first electric two-wheeler in India.
Niranjan Gupta, CFO, Hero MotoCorp, recently confirmed the news, saying that the company will bring in its first electric two wheeler in FY22. Though he did not divulge any details about whether it will be a scooter or a bike, Gupta did mention that it is aiming for a launch some time between January-March, 2022.
That is pretty much all the information we have about the upcoming Hero MotoCorp electric two-wheeler in India. However, the report does mention that the company is working on the new line of EVs with Gogoro, a Taiwan-based company that deals in electric scooters as well battery swapping systems. The aforementioned report also notes Hero is developing electric 2wheelers with both, fixed-battery and swappable battery models.
