Bajaj Auto has announced to receive an overwhelming response to the re-opening of bookings for the Chetak Electric Scooter in Bangalore and Pune. The company has again closed the bookings of the scooter, owing to its high demand. The bookings were opened on the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa ie on 13th April 2021 and customers were able to book Chetak online on a first come first serve basis.
Bajaj said that a large number of confirmed orders were placed by customers requiring the Company to cease acceptance of bookings within 48 hours. The company will review the supply situation before announcing the next round of booking opportunity.
Commenting on the customer response, Mr. Rakesh Sharma, Executive Director at Bajaj Auto Ltd., said, “We are absolutely delighted to see the fabulous response to the re-opening of bookings for the Chetak electric scooter in Pune and Bengaluru. Covid-led disruptions last year resulted in an unintended and long waiting period but despite that we have seen very few cancellations of bookings. We thank our customers in Pune and Bengaluru for their patience and now this overwhelming response. We are conscious that customers would like to receive early deliveries of Chetak and start enjoying it as soon as possible, hence we have had to take the difficult decision of closing the bookings in view of continuing supply chain uncertainties. However, it is our endeavor to resolve the supply chain issues at the earliest, re-open bookings as well as roll into more cities within the next quarter.”
The Bajaj Chetak was launched in two variants – Urbane and Premium – and was priced at Rs 1 lakh and Rs 1.15 lakh respectively. The company increased the prices of the Urbane variant by Rs 24,000 and Premium variant by Rs 27,000. The scooter is now retailed at INR 1.42 lakh in Bangalore.
The Bajaj Chetak electric scooter is available with a steel body and flush-fitted panels. It comes with an IP67 water-resistant and a beltless Solid Gear Drive. The scooter has three riding modes – Eco, Sport and Reverse. It features LED headlamps with integrated DRLs and sequential LED blinkers.
The Bajaj Chetak is equipped with a 3.8kW/4.1kW electric motor delivering power to the rear wheel via an automated transmission. It sources power from a lithium-ion battery pack, which is claimed to offer a range of 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. The scooter can be charged 100% in 5 hours and 25% in hour. The Bajaj Chetak has a service interval of 12,000kms or 1 year, and comes with an overall warranty of 3 years or 50,000kms.
