A gang of thugs left a police officer needing hospital treatment after crashing in to him while driving e-scooters.
Patrols had been out in the Ainsdale area, near Southport, on Wednesday (April 14) when they officers came across three men driving the electric vehicles dangerously.
The men were spotted down Sandbrook Road, right on the edge of the West Lancashire border, at around 7.30pm in the evening.
It was soon after this that one of the scooters collided with one of the officers patrolling the area.
They suffered injuries to his arms and legs and was taken to hospital for treatment, the Liverpool Echo reported.
Thankfully his injuries were non-life threatening and he has since been discharged from hospital.
Following this one eye-witness described a large police presence in the area last night, with officers seen searching woodland nearby.
A Merseyside Police spokesperson said “reckless riding of electric and scrambler bikes is completely unacceptable”, with officers now trying to track down those involved.
Officers are after accounts from any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage in the local area.
Two of the bikes were described as being dark in colour and one was red.
They ran off after the collision.
Chief Inspector Steve Hardy said: “We are investigating following an incident in Southport which left an officer needing hospital treatment.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident, bikes fittings the description above, or has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area to please get in touch.
“The reckless riding of electric and scrambler bikes is completely unacceptable and we are carrying out a number of enquiries to find those involved.
