Rapido, one of India’s first and fastest-growing Bike taxi apps has announced that it is going to launch an electric bike (e-bike) taxi service, under a partnership with Zypp Electric, a last-mile delivery provider. The new E-taxi will be called ‘Rapido EV’, which will be starting from March 2021 in Delhi and the National Capital Regions (NCR), as a part of a three-month-long pilot run.
Rapido announced it will be onboarding over 100 riders and electric two-wheelers from Zypp Electric as part of its Captain fleet, to reduce its carbon footprint and encourage EV adoption in the country.
Speaking on the launch of their all-new ‘Rapido EV’ bike taxi, co-founder of Rapido, Aravind Sanka stated, “While India is the largest two-wheeler market, only 1 percent of it is electric. With the launch of Rapido EV rides, we want to give a unique experience to our users along with contributing positively to the environment and reduce our carbon footprint.”
The new Rapido EV will be available under the Ride section in the Rapido app. The service could be priced at the usual Rapido ride fare with a minimal convenience fee.
“The partnership with Rapido is part of a highly focused EV utilization project where we wish to ensure that every segment is able to switch to EVs comfortably,” commented the Co-Founder of Zypp Electric, Akash Gupta on the partnership with Rapido.
Akash further added, “With our robust battery swapping network which will be tested with bike taxi services with Rapido, we’re here to bolster the EV proposition together with this partnership and would love to scale this nationally making people get pollution-free taxi rides too.”
Recently this January, Zypp Electric had announced that it has set its goals of installing five thousand battery swapping stations in three years, across 100 cities. The company will install the battery swapping stations for electric two-wheelers (E2Ws) and electric three-wheelers (E3Ws).
