Triumph Motorcycles revealed design sketches of its Triumph Project TE-1 electric bike prototype, more than two years after the British company announced its intent to develop an electric motorcycle from the ground up. The company also announced the completion of phase 2 of collaboration in design and engineering with teams involved from across the globe, such as Williams Advanced Engineering, Integral Powertrain Ltd, and WMG at the University of Warwick, and of course, Triumph Motorcycles that focused on developing specialist electric motorcycle technology and innovative integrated solutions.

The outcome of phase 2 for Williams Advanced Engineering includes a fully bench-tested battery with performance results that exceed in terms of power and energy density.

With the reveal of the battery and powertrain prototype, initial high-level performance results, and the first design concept drawings for the Project TE-1 Prototype motorcycle will be created at the end of the next phase which will be in October this year. Once finished, the TE-1 will weigh over 220kg, produce 174bhp, and travel around 193km before the need to plug it back in. Additionally, the Project TE-1 Prototype will be able to charge from 0-80 per cent in just 20 minutes.

A new vehicle control unit is integrated into the battery pack to minimise weight and packaging.

The outcome of phase 2 for Williams Advanced Engineering includes a fully bench-tested battery with performance results that exceed in terms of power and energy density. The company identified appropriate cell technology and battery architecture to deliver the performance objectives that used a framework to optimize the battery module layout, balance mass, and positioning within the prototype chassis. Additionally, a new vehicle control unit is integrated into the battery pack to minimize weight and packaging.

Alongside this electrical and control system work, Triumph designed a brand-new prototype chassis including mainframe and rear frame optimized alongside the battery and motor package which will be further evolved in Phase 3 into the TE-1 Prototype. It will be used as a mule test platform in Phase 4. During this chassis development, the company has taken into account the transmission design and the final styling of the TE-1 Prototype, the drawings of which are revealed for the first time.
