Simon Cowell could have “smashed (his) spine to pieces” when he fell off his electric bike last year.
The X Factor judge broke his back when he came off his electric bike at his home in Malibu in August, and in his first one-on-one interview about the accident with his close friend, and ex-girlfriend, Extra’s Terri Seymour, Simon revealed his injuries could have been “a lot worse”.
“When I saw the X-ray, I really nearly could have smashed my spine to pieces, so I literally wouldn’t have been able to walk,” he admitted. “I knew I’d broken my back the minute I landed… it was really, really kind of sudden and it hurt.”
The Britain’s Got Talent judge was aware that he should stay still to avoid injuring himself further, but he crawled into the house to get his partner, Lauren Silverman, who he praised for her support.

Once he had surgery and returned home, the 61-year-old was worried how his seven-year-old son Eric would react to his appearance.
“I was so embarrassed about coming home looking about 100 (years old) because I couldn’t walk, and I have these metal rods in my back and these screws,” he recalled. “I said, ‘Lauren, I just don’t know how to explain it to (Eric).’ She obviously said something to him because he came in… and I was lying in bed and he said, ‘Daddy, you’re like Iron Man,’ and I thought that was the sweetest thing and it meant a lot.”
He confessed he struggled with feeling helpless during the recovery process as “you literally can’t move” and “the pain was off the charts” but the incident inspired him to be fitter than he was before and he has since achieved that.
After missing Britain’s and America’s Got Talent last year due to his recovery, Simon is now back filming the latter show. BGT won’t be going ahead this year due to the pandemic.
